Orienteering, Camping, Potluck & Hiking at Machicomoco State Park

Orienteering (navigating with map & compass), 2 nights car camping, Friday night potluck, hiking and optional dinner.

Orienteering:
Machicomoco State Park offers a FREE "Let's Go Orienteering" class on Nov 8, 11am to 1pm. Equipment is provided. This introduction to orienteering shows you the basics of map reading, pacing distances, and navigating cross country; all vital skills for hikers. If you have a hiking compass, you're welcome to bring it.

Camping:
Walk-in, non-electric tent sites are available, reservations required. Reserve at: VA State Park Reservations or call 1-800-933-PARK. I'm in site 10. Tent sites are approximately 150-200 feet from parking, and 200-400 feet from the bathhouse with restrooms/showers. Each site has a 20' X 20' pad, parking for 2 vehicles, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern pole. Tents, canopies, etc. are required to be on the tent pad, and there's a maximum of 6 people per site.

Friday night potluck, 6pm:
Bring a dish to share, when it's closer we can post in comments what we're bringing so we don't have 5 bags of Cheetos. And Cheetos are not a dish, lol.

Saturday night dinner:
Optional dinner at Bubba's Shrimp Shack on Saturday night. It's 2.79 miles away from the park entrance. It is the Gloucester location.

Hiking:
I plan to hike on Sunday morning before leaving, approximately 3.5-4 miles at a 2.5 - 3 mph pace, with stops for photos. No drop hike. Mostly flat improved gravel trails and pavement. Hike may be switched to Saturday afternoon, after lunch, depending on our orienteering event and dinner plans.
