Acing take-home interviews

Companies across ANZ love take-home interviews, but this type of assessment is less talked about, compared with other formats such as algorithms and system design. Many candidates feel lost because they don’t know what to expect, or how to prepare properly. If you think “take-home” interviews are just about completing coding assignments at home, this session will change your mind, and help you understand how you can perform better at them.

In this session, we will dive deep into the nuances of take-home interviews to help you navigate them successfully:

• Understand the Basic Structure: We'll break down how these interviews are typically structured and what types of questions are asked in each step.
• Identify Pitfalls and Avoid Them: Discover common mistakes candidates make during take-home tests and learn how to avoid them.
• Learn from Real Examples and Stories: Explore take-home interviews with realistic examples, and you’ll hear real-life success and failure stories from the speaker.

Whether you're fresh out of university or an international professional adapting to New Zealand’s tech recruitment process, this talk will equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to excel in take-home interviews.

Speaker:
Yihao is a software engineer at Microsoft, where he focuses on building the Azure Kubernetes Service, enabling companies around the globe to run their apps easily and safely. Prior to joining Microsoft, he worked at Octopus Deploy and ASB Bank. Yihao studied psychology and accounting before he switched his career to become a software engineer in 2020. Having taken part in many job interviews (on both sides), Yihao is keen to share his success and failure stories, and help others get better prepared.
