Day walk to Snowy hut Waiotauru River Otaki

Meet at the Paraparaumu Railway Stn (park in area across track) at 8.15am. Car pool with me to School House Flat Otaki Forks. $6 pp. We will head up river the whole way. That means swimming a few pools. Bring extra layers to wear also a bag of dry clothes and towel to be left in my car. Have either an empty bottle or blown up hydration system in your pack for extra flotation. Pack emergency gear and food in a dry bag. Plan to turn back at 1.30pm unless the hut is very close. On the way home we can explore the overgrown logging roads and maybe come out via the Waiotauru track. Lots of return options by mutual agreement. Have map and compass or gps system. Whistle, emergency bag/bivie and torch compulsory items per person. This is a wet feet day walk involving slippery rocks and unmarked routes. Have gear in waterproof bags and bring extra layers in case you get cold. 15 km return slow river going some navigation required. Not suitable for beginners.
