Outings for all levels of those adventurous at heart from beginning to experienced hikers throughout the Southern California area as well as Northern California, the rest of the U.S. and even International trips. Hiking, backpacking, off-trail, on-trail, snow travel, all throughout the year with many Sierra Club sections. . Meet other like-minded folks who love the outdoors. Enjoy shared "happy hours" camping beside alpine lakes; celebrate with others as they achieve their goals of climbing local, Sierra, and desert peaks; or go on regularly scheduled conditioning hikes and walks; make lifelong friends with whom you can explore the outdoors in every season. We are eager to share our love for the outdoors with old friends and new.

This Meetup also announces the Sierra Club's Wilderness Travel Course (WTC), which runs from January to March of every year.
This ten-week Sierra Club course has been offering classroom instruction and field experiences to Los Angeles and Orange County outdoor enthusiasts for the past 20 years. During the late summer and autumn months, there is a series of free introductory/conditioning hikes (listed on this Meetup). The Wilderness Travel Course takes place every January through March and teaches basic navigation, off trail, snow travel, bouldering, and ,any other hiking / backpacking skills for mountain and desert travel. The Course includes navigation instruction using topo maps and compass, rock scrambling techniques, how to choose equipment, backpacking food and nutrition, snow travel, wilderness first aid, and lots more. Includes ten evening classes, and two full-day and two weekend outings with bus transportation provided. Offered in four So Cal locations (see below). Hike #10 in the 2025 Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains series is
a strenuous 14 miles, 2500 gain hike from Sycamore Canyon through Serrano Valley to lunch at Chamberlain Split Rock Memorial and return.Meet at the Lower Sycamore Canyon fee parking lot on the in-land side of the PCH (PCH West 19 miles from Malibu Canyon Road - Google maps: 9000 PCH). Pay fee or park for free with appropriate parking permit in parking lot, or park for free on PCH around corner near sand dune.
Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and an adventurous attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.

Moderate 9 miles, 1000' gain Westside city park hike. Our PtPtP outing tours Culver City Park, the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, and Kenny Hahn State Recreation Area. The outing will traverse the Park to Playa trail as well as Ron's trail, a short jaunt up and down the infamous Culver City Stairs, and take in scenic ponds, waterfalls, stream crossings, a bridge to somewhere, wild life crossings, goats, ducks, turtles, hummingbirds, fish (bring your pole and you might catch a trout), monuments, murals, city views (downtown, uptown, lefttown, righttown), nature center (clockwise and counter clockwise tours), and many other sights too numerous to cover in this description.
Meet at 8:00 AM at the Bill Botts baseball field in Culver City (take Duquesne Avenue into Culver City Park to its end, make a left at the Boneyard Dog Park, and then another left to circle the baseball field to parking on the left field side of the diamond.
Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a good attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.
This is a Back Country hike, and a Sierra Club medical form is required. The form is available at bitly.com/scmedicalform. We ask you to print it out and carry it with you, but the form will be available at the trailhead as well.
In going on a Sierra Club outing you are potentially on a trip with individuals vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is your choice to attend the outing knowing this information. The leader can not and should not reveal the status of participants vaccination or reject a participant based on their vaccination status. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. If someone is experiencing any possible COVID symptoms or is sick, they should not attend the outing. The participant is responsible for contacting the leader to report a positive COVID test.
