Originally built in 1956, The Buccaneer Marina and Resort has been an icon in Palm Beach Shores and has been called home by many local legends, including Ernest Hemingway.

As the marina and resort restoration nears completion, we are proud to announce the opening of our new restaurant, the Buccaneer Waterfront Grill, with Chef Paul Niedermann at the helm.

This Season I decided to start my reading with an old copy of “Islands in the Stream” by Ernest Hemingway. It immediately captured my attention and I’m having trouble putting it down. While the writing is occasionally old school it’s an easy read and immediately captures your imagination as you visualize the life of the main character, an island-based Florida type artist and painter Thomas Hudson.

“Beginning in the 1930s this book follows the fortunes of Thomas Hudson, from his experiences as a painter on the Gulfstream island of Bimini through his anti-submarine activities off the coast of Cuba during World War II. Hemmingway is at his mature Best in the big Island tail.”

Let’s grab a copy of the book and read this over the Thanksgiving and December pre-holiday season. Then let’s meet up for a cool seasonal beverage and maybe some food at this eclectic waterfront Grill. The reviews for the restaurant are a wonderful and the prices seem reasonable. I’ll check if there are happy hour menus, but at least we can meet up for a drink and talk about our thoughts on the book.

Please bring some comments about what you thought And even if you don’t get to finish the book, come join us for a discussion about the writings of Ernest Hemingway and his chosen lifestyle. Do we choose that lifestyle or does it choose us?

As always, please be mindful of your RSVP as your host expect you to attend if you say you will. Emergencies do happen, but please contact the host and post a message and change your RSVP if you’re no longer able to go. My telephone number will be in the Private comments below.
