Wungong Dam via Wungong Creek (13km)
Details
Just a little south of Armadale is a fantastic walk to the Wungong Dam, my equal 2nd favourite walk in the hills..
Update: This event was cancelled due to heavy rain forecast for the 28th March but the weather for April 4th is currently looking fabulous. Let's do it!
The trail follows the Wungong Brook along a deep and picturesque valley starting from the South Western Highway through to the Wungong Dam. Enjoy beautiful bushland and lovely views across the coastal plain and reservoir.
The entire track is a loop heading in a counter clockwise direction. An easy start as it follows Wungong Creek which has a steady, gentle incline. On the way back, after the dam, the track has a challenging, steep goat track that will put a smile on your face then it is flat the majority of the way before heading down a steep descent back to the trailhead.
Where: MeetUp at the Start of Wungong Gorge Track, (GPS -32.192583, 116.016194), Click on the map and your GPS will take you to the exact starting point. Do not enter the address that MeetUp has put in.
Parking: Parking at the MeetUp point.
Difficulty: 13km and 418m elevation gain. This is a moderately challenging walk up through the valley. After the dam we climb a goat track in a short 300m section with a 100m elevation then a pleasant flat hilltop walk followed by a long, very steep decent as we return to our cars. This walk should only be attempted by regular hikers, if you are new to hiking or recovering from injury you should not attempt this one.
Toilets: 2 at the dam and also later at the café.
What to bring: Hat, 1.5L. Poles, proper hiking shoes and water proofs are recommended.
Café after the walk: Join us at the Dome in Armadale for a coffee, bite to eat and chat after the walk. 10 Orchard Ave, Armadale WA 6112 Dome
