Women Who Code in collaboration with Women In Game Development Sydney (https://www.meetup.com/Women-in-Game-Development-Sydney/ ) invite you to Make a Game with Electron
During this workshop we will through the process of developing your first game using web technologies and proven practices.
Agenda:
- 6 - 6.30pm: Arrivals and networking
- 6.30 - 6.40pm: Introductions
- 6.40 - 8.30pm: Workshop
- 8.30pm: Pack up and hometime
About the workshop:
We will start with the idea, talk about the game loop and game states, frontend-backend separation and communication, and then create our dice game for 2 players. The game will be built with HTML, CSS and Javascript on the frontend, and Node.js on the backend.
This workshop will require basic programming knowledge, and participants need to understand basic flow control (statements like if, switch, loops etc), simple condition logic and variable scope.
If you have some experience with any programming knowledge - you will be able to follow along and complete this workshop.
To participate in the workshop you'll need:
- A laptop with Node.js installed (version v8.5.0 or later). You can download and install it from https://nodejs.org/en/download/
- Any text editor (like SublimeText, Atom or VSCode).
- Terminal app, iTerm or any other terminal (it usually comes preinstalled with your OS).

Inga Pflaumer, an indie game developer, devops and systems analyst at SMG Studio, organiser of Women In Game Development Sydney meetup group and Sydney Unity GameDev meetup group. Finalist of YOW! Women in Tech Competition 2017.
