Hi and welcome to WordPress Cambridge #wpcbg
WordPress Cambridge is a monthly Zoom Meetup for users, designers & developers to pool their knowledge, experiences and techniques. Traditionally we run on the second Monday evening, UK time, of the month. Voted the 8th best meetup in town by a Cambridge Business lounge poll. However, our August and December meetups are at a local Cambridge pub, as there is a small WordPress community around town.
Every meeting is an open discussion where everyone is free to share their experiences, knowledge and solutions. Often Chris or Simon introduce the topic, just to get the discussion started. Then participants take over. Questions are great, and hopefully someone knows a solution. Ideally, everyone leaves with a greater knowledge of WordPress.
We also have a code of conduct to ensure our meetings are friendly and welcoming to everyone who wants to attend. Please check it out!

Monday August 11th 7pm is a Pub meetup at the Carpenters Arms on Victoria Road, Cambridge. It's a chance to actually meet local members for meandering chats, perhaps also including WordPress matters.
Even better, the Carpenters Arms offers a 2 for 1 pizza deal on Monday evenings. We'll have a large table reserved.

We reckoned there wouldn't be great attendance online in August, as everyone would be in out, probably in pubs or cafes enjoying the summer.
We've got a marvellous session lined up for September around code snippets that replace plugins, short-cuts and favourite tools/plugins.

This month, by popular demand, let’s discuss and share our favourite code snippets, tools, short cuts, and free plugins, that save money, bloat, or improve performance. Do sign up here:

We don't know what will come out of the session but perhaps some of these issues may emerge during the discussion:
- Handling backups at the OS level or via your hosting provider instead of a plugin
- Using cron jobs or GitHub Actions instead of scheduling plugins
- Replacing SEO plugins with simple static metadata where appropriate
- Moving from visual builders to lean, reusable block patterns or custom themes
- Removing security plugins in favour of proper server configuration and firewalls
- Using external analytics (like Plausible or server logs) over JS-heavy analytics plugins
- Bloat free versions of bloated plugins.
Beginner or advanced, we’re here to learn from one another. As always, our friendly regulars from the UK, Europe, and the USA will be joining in.
