Did you know if the internet was a country it would be the seventh biggest polluter in the world? And if the internet’s consumption of electricity continues to grow at the current pace, the internet could be responsible for consuming 14% of the world’s electricity by 2040. Shocking isn’t?
With around 40% of all websites being WordPress websites, as a community we have a fantastic opportunity to play a role in reducing emissions and spreading awareness of the impact of our online habits.

In this talk we’ll understand how to measure the carbon emissions of your website. We’ll look at techniques you can use to lessen your impact, whether you are responsible for their creation in some way as a developer, designer or content creator. Not only will these techniques help your green credentials, you will also produce faster loading sites that your visitors and search engines will love!

🌿 Hannah is a freelance WordPress developer from Bristol with a background in Computer Science.

Before freelance life, amongst other things, she honed her management skills at the Environment Agency, where she managed large business change projects. She’s co-founder of Green Tech South West and is on a mission to raise awareness about the environmental impact of digital tech. She also likes dogs, plants and snow.
