"Smashing Project Delivery With Agile Techniques" & "The Art of Problem Solving"

Welcome to the fourth WordPress Exeter meetup, taking place on Tuesday 20th August 2019. A free, friendly and welcoming meetup for everyone in and around the Exeter area who works with, develops, uses, or is interested in, WordPress websites and web design and development in general.

At this meetup we're putting aside coding and teccie subjects, to focus on methods to help you smoothly deliver projects and solve those tricky problems you might encounter along the way. Whether you are a freelancer, agency, manager, coder or designer, both talks have loads of great info relevant to web projects of all sizes.

Important! Please note our new start time of 6.30pm, half an hour earlier than previously, so there's more time for discussion, socialising, drinks and networking after the talks.

☕️🍷 We meet in the City Gate pub so you can use the bar and facilities, bring drinks into the room, and have a drink afterwards (and eat too - the chips are great!)

⏰ Please arrive from 6pm onwards, the first talk starts at 6.30pm.

🤝 There'll be opportunities to ask questions, talk to the speakers, as well as plenty of time to meet and chat with other attendees. After the first talk we take a short break and then have our second talk. Following that, stay on as long as you like to chat, relax and socialise.

"Smashing Project Delivery With Agile Techniques"

Hannah Smith

If you work on your own, or in a small business making WordPress sites, you might think that agile project management isn’t relevant to you. After all, it’s designed for big teams who are maintaining complex software over a long time and have the budget for a dedicated project manager, isn’t it? Well, yes and no.

In this talk Hannah will show you how the principles of agile are relevant to you, no matter the size and scale of what you do and whether you are in an official project management role or not. She’ll also show you how having a more agile way of working can help you deliver better websites, waste less time on redundant features and keep your clients even happier.

Hannah's talk will cover: what are projects and project management; what is agile; why it’s helpful; and how to apply it to your WordPress business.

Hannah is a freelance developer, project manager, teacher and instructor based in Bristol. She co-organises the Bristol WordPress meet-up, was co-lead for WordCamp Bristol 2019 and is a strong advocate for women in tech.

The Art of Problem Solving

Ben Everard

Problem solving may not sound like the most rock n roll topic for a conversation... and that might be true! But it is at the core of everything we do, a skill so universal it transcends software, job role, even occupation.

In this talk we’ll explore the mechanics of problem solving, Ben will share what he's learnt from overcoming challenges, recovering from failure and seeing the opportunity in problems as a developer and design agency co-founder.

Ben is co-founder and developer at The Idea Bureau, united with charities, social enterprises and public sector organisations worldwide, turning ideas into standout websites, apps and services that drive change.
