### Yin Yoga is Allowing, Releasing, Letting Go
Allowing means permitting everything that needs to be: let your thoughts enter your mind.
Allow the sensation of the poses to exist.
Label the thought or sensation.
This is not a judgment; the sensation or thought is neither good nor bad. Simply observe it for what it is.
Once you’ve noticed it, simply let it go. Like an exhale, don’t hold on—release. Now repeat.
This is meditation: meditation is the key skill for learning to let go.
Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga as exercise that incorporates principles of traditional Chinese medicine, with asanas (postures) held for longer periods than in other styles.
The sequences of postures are designed to stimulate the body’s channels known as meridians.
Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.
As a more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence and bringing forth a universal, interconnected quality.
The Yin class consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly target the lower body: hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine.
