Discover Bristol: Faith in the Old City
Details
Get your week off to a good start with two hours of guided walking in attractive surroundings with pleasant company.
The focus is very much on getting to know your fellow walkers, fresh air and gentle exercise. Exercise, socialising and learning are three out of the five steps to mental wellbeing.
On these Discover Bristol sessions Steve shares his extensive research on the history, geography, wildlife and geology of the city. There is also plenty of time to chat about interesting finds that we discover along the way.
On our tour today we will look at the medieval monastic tradition in Old Bristol, the reformation and the emergence of Puritanism and Non Conformity. We will also learn of the arrival of the Jewish community in Bristol in the mid nineteenth century. We will pay our respects to a Great Man of India and consider the Hindu faith. Our walk does not take us near a mosque on this occasion, but we will be sure to include Islam and other faiths in Bristol on future walks.
As is our custom a historical travelogue style article based on Steve's extensive research notes will be sent out to participants after the event.
We take coffee at the end of our Discover Bristol walks. This time we will visit the cafe in Wesley's New Room.
This is a great opportunity for a bit of leg stretching and some tongue wagging along the way. Exercise, socialising and learning are three out of the five steps to mental wellbeing.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
