What we’re about
Welcome! We’re the 20s/30s+ Committee of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Western MA Chapter — a fun, friendly group for people in their 20s & 30s who love the outdoors and want to explore Western Mass and New England with others.
Whether you’re new to hiking, just moved to the area, or have years of outdoor experience, you’ll find a welcoming community here. We organize group hikes, paddles, ski trips, campouts, social gatherings, trail work days, and more — all with a focus on community, inclusivity, and shared adventure.
You don’t need to be an AMC member to join our Meetup group or come to events (though we love it when you become one!). Most of our activities are free or low-cost and are led by trained volunteers who are excited to share their passion for the outdoors.
Join us to explore new trails, meet like-minded folks, and build lasting connections — both on and off the trail.

Audience: 20’s & 30’s
Description: Join other folks in their 20s/30s for a fun, hands-on afternoon at Lake Bray in Holyoke! Whether you are looking to spend a lot of time outdoors this winter or just a little, this outing is designed to grow your comfort and confidence with winter layering .
Hew will provide a basic overview of winter gear and best practices for staying warm while recreating outdoors. Following, Chelsea will lead a short hike along the Universal Access Loop (0.8 mi) and some silly group games in the grassy (hopefully snowy!) area.
What to expect: Come prepared with any concerns and/or questions you may have about winter layering Get silly Learn how to use what you have to effectively and safely spend time outdoors in winter Dogs are welcome at Lake Bray; must be leashed at all times. Please let Chelsea/Hew know if you plan on bringing yours!

Description: Start the new year on the trail with AMC Western MA 20s/30s! Join us on Saturday, January 3 for a winter hike at Mount Sugarloaf in Deerfield, featuring classic local views and a festive way to kick off 2026 outdoors.
We’ll begin at the main parking lot on Sugarloaf Street and head north along the powerline trail to North Sugarloaf. From there, we’ll return south and climb to South Sugarloaf, where we’ll pause to take in expansive winter views across the Connecticut River Valley. We’ll finish by walking the road back down to our cars.
This hike will be approximately 3.5 miles with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain, offering a moderate challenge with rewarding views along the way.
Expect winter conditions. Traction may be required depending on snow and ice, and is available to borrow.

Audience: 20’s & 30’s
Description: Come join other folks' in their 20s/30s at the Powder Hollow Brewery at the Yankee Candle Village in South Deerfield, MA! This is primarily a social gathering for people to chat, relax, eat some great food, have some drinks, and meet other folks with similar interests! We will also have opportunities to set intentions for the new year and have some reflection/crafting time if that's something you're interested in!
Powder Hollow is co-located with Hillside Pizza, which offers 10" personal pizzas (with vegan options), wraps, soup & sides.
