We’ll gather at 9 a.m. at the trailhead on Route 3 near Blackwoods Campground to begin our 7-mile round-trip journey to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Our route ascends gradually but steadily along the South Ridge Trail, winding through open granite ledges and spruce-fir forests. Along the way, we’ll pause to admire the tranquil beauty of The Featherbed Pond and take in sweeping views from Eagle’s Crag before continuing toward the summit.
This vigorous hike features 1,571 feet of elevation gain and a mix of rocky, uneven terrain and steep climbs that will test your endurance—but reward you with panoramic views of Acadia’s rugged coastline, forested ridges, and surrounding islands.
Participants should come prepared for changing weather with layered clothing and sturdy hiking shoes/boots. Bring plenty of water, high-energy snacks, and trekking poles if you prefer extra stability. Please note that dogs are not permitted on this hike.
Perfect for experienced hikers, this challenging yet exhilarating climb offers a memorable way to honor the AMC’s enduring legacy of outdoor exploration. Together, we’ll celebrate 150 years of stewardship, community, and adventure—culminating in a breathtaking summit view from one of America’s most iconic peaks.
