What we’re about
When Attachment Theory was introduced in the last century by British Dr. John Bowlby and researcher Mary Ainsworth, they identified four distinct Attachment Styles* to describe how children relate emotionally and behaviorally to their caregivers.
Later studies deepened this understanding. Much like DNA encodes the blueprint for how our bodies replicate at the cellular level; our subconscious encodes an Attachment Style that replicates in our adult relationships the same familiar psycho-social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics from our childhood relationships with our caregivers. The encouraging news is that, unlike DNA, our Attachment Style is not fixed.
This same knowledge about Attachment is and will continue to have a foundational influence on family and marriage therapy, and other wellness practices. With increased awareness of how Attachment Styles operate, some new skills and intentional practice, we can choose to have an Earned Secure Attachment Style, and benefit from healthier, more balanced and fulfilling relationships with ourselves and others.
Each [MeetUp.com](http://meetup.com/) event hosted by the Attachment Pathway will explore one of the many elements of Attachment Styles in a group format and will host questions and answers at the end. Notably, Attachment Pathway webinars focus on enhancing understanding of Attachment Styles, and building skills toward secure attachment as essential parts of wellness. The Attachment Pathway is not a provider of therapy and our programs for individuals and groups are not substitutes for therapy services offered by licensed therapists and mental health professionals.
