We will be walking a loop in central Auckland to include 3 volcano summits: Maungawhau / Mount Eden, Te Kōpuke / Mount St John, and Ōhinerau / Mount Hobson. Amazing views over the harbour and city.
Graded 2 on our 1-5 difficulty rating - some steep sections climbing up to the top of each volcano. Otherwise mostly easy on gravel paths or pavement.
Approx: 2 - 2.5hrs of walking (depends on the group)
Distance: 9.5km
Here's the plan:
Before 10am - Meet at the Tahaki Reserve carpark, 250 Mount Eden Road. If that carpark is full you can find street parking in the surrounding streets.
*Please note, there are no toilets along our walking route. You can use either the toilet around the corner at the Tahaki Reserve Playground, or the public toilets on Puhi Huia Road inside Mt Eden domain. -36.874886, 174.764401
10am - Start walking up and around Mt Eden, then over to Mt St John and Mt Hobson, returning to our starting point via Newmarket.
*Please note, we will be crossing a couple of busy roads. For safety purposes, where possible, we will cross as a group at traffic lights.
1.00pm - Anticipated finish time
Bring - Normal hiking gear - the tracks are fairly well-maintained so you can wear running shoes with good grip instead of hiking boots. Hat, rain jacket and warm layers to wear or keep in your pack, plus drink bottle.
Food - Bring your own snacks and water.
Carpooling - Please comment when you rsvp whether you need a lift / can offer lifts, which part of Auckland and your mobile number. It’s up to you to arrange this among yourselves. Please bring $10 cash for your drivers or make arrangements to pay your driver by bank transfer. You could also catch public transport (bus) to our starting point.
No guests. If you have friends who would like to come get them to join Auckland Outdoors and RSVP.
If your situation changes and you can no longer attend please update your RSVP immediately. If you drop out after 5pm the night before the event or don't turn up this will be treated as a 'no show'. 3 'no shows' will mean that you cannot join an event for 6 months. This rule is in place to be fair to others in the group.
We look forward to seeing you all :)
