🚀 Agenda:
- What's New on AWS!!
- You’re Probably Doing Event Sourcing — Tyson Brown, Consultant & distributed systems nerd @ Thoughtworks
In this talk we will dive deep into the architecture of two financial orgs. Both shuffling events around in a distributed environment.
The first built an event sourced architecture on top of Postgres and AWS. Then they started missing payments from their customers. We'll find out why.
The second, followed the usual Postgres database per-service, events in outbox + CDC over to Kafka. We'll look at why they ended up with corrupt state and broke their system invariants. Did they implement event sourcing by accident? We will find out!
Finally, we'll look at alternatives to these patterns, exploring a prototype open-source event store I'm building. We will also look at ways to stay safe with the gaps in the existing tools we have.
This won't be a hand-wavy architecture talk. We will go deep into the technical problems with distributed architectures and help you pick the right tools for the job.
- Burnout: Lessons from recovery - Greg Luxford, Senior Solution Architect @ FinClear
We all have bad days, go the extra mile, want to be the hero and strive for excellence. What if that becomes the norm? What happens to our mindset, relationships and mental health? The purpose of this important session is to recognise the signs and some things you can do to help yourself and others around you.
