BBS 6: Launch Your Own Server (EC2) and Master Cloud Hardware
Details
Stop just reading about the cloud and start building in it! This is the most critical session for any aspiring cloud engineer or developer. We are diving deep into Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud), the service that lets you deploy and control your own virtual servers (VMs) in the AWS Cloud.
Learn to choose the right "hardware," secure your machine, and ensure your application stays running, no matter what.
### What You Will Learn:
- The Blueprint: Understand the core concept of an EC2 Virtual Machine and what an AMI (the server template) really is.
- Choosing Your Power: Practical tips for selecting the correct Instance Type for any workload (T, M, C, and R series demystified).
- Defense First: How to set up Security Groups—your cloud firewall—to control who (and what) talks to your server.
- Data That Lasts: Attaching EBS (Elastic Block Store) to give your VM persistent, reliable disk space.
- The Initial Setup: Using User Data scripts to instantly configure your server upon launch.
- High Availability: Using Elastic IPs to give your server a permanent address that you can quickly remap for resilience.
### What You Need to Bring:
- Laptop: Fully charged.
- AWS Account: Please ensure you have an active AWS Free Tier account set up before the event.
- Enthusiasm: Ready to launch your very first cloud server!
### How to Find the Group:
The session will be held at Celebal Lab in the Department of Computer Engineering at Sanjivani College of Engineering.
This is where your cloud career truly begins. Don't miss this fundamental session!
