The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is a living history organization dedicated to the re-creation of the culture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Members of the SCA work to create a “current Middle Ages” by researching and re-creating the dress, weaponry, armor, jewelry, food, and life styles of the period. The Barony of Jararvellir is the local group of the SCA based in Madison, Wisconsin. We are a part of the region known in the SCA as the Kingdom of Northshield (Generally the Upper Midwest and Mid-Canada).
The Barony hosts armored combat, rapier combat, archery, and thrown weapons, as well as guilds devoted to needle arts, calligraphy and illumination, armor making, dance, fletching, both vocal and instrumental music, brewing and vintning, and many other things. SCA membership is not required to participate in many of these activities. All that’s necessary is your interest.
This Group is held and managed by the Barony of Jararvellir, a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. and is considered the Official channel of this group here. a. Community Safety is Paramount – if your content makes our community unsafe, we will act without hesitation to ensure the safety of our community. b. We will apply the appropriate level of response to the perceived scale and frequency of the infraction. d. Transparency where possible – where possible, we will explain the management or enforcement actions taken. e. Appeals - if you feel that the action has been taken has been inappropriate, you may appeal to (choose most appropriate) your Kingdom Social Media Officer and Seneschal, the SCA Social Media Officer and Society Seneschal, or SCA President.

Youth Boffer Combat
UW Stock Pavilion, 1675 Linden Dr, Madison, WI, USGreetings all!
We will be holding Youth Boffer combat practice at the UW Stock Pavilion; directions can be found at http://www.jararvellir.org/meeting-sites/.
The practice will start at 1:00 to let the kids take part in archery for a while before we start boffers. We can go as late as 4 if the kids want to keep going.
Youth Boffer Combat is open to any youths 6-17 years old who have a parent present and have the necessary gear. Youth Boffer Combat participants do not have to have prior experience.
A parent or guardian MUST sign a waiver and receive brief (10-15 minute) orientation before the youth can take part. We will be holding the orientation starting at 1:00 for each practice, and again later if needed.
Youth fighters from 6-9 years old must also have a parent present at the practice field at all times; all parents must remain somewhere on site during practice.
The full set of rules for Youth Boffer Combat in Northshield can be found at http://northshield.org/Resources/PDF/Martial/handbooks/NorthshieldYouthCombatHandbook2018.pdfWe have a wide variety of loaner gear and weapons to try out, but it would be very helpful for children have their own groin protection as appropriate for their age group. If you have it, head protection (a hockey helmet or equivalent) would also be helpful - we have a big bag of helmets but we don't always have one that will fit a new fighter. Participants may need to share loaner gear.
If you have any questions, or if you are interested but will not be able to attend this session, please feel free to contact me via reply to this message or via email at jbf@pobox.com.
