Favorite speculative design projects (London edition)

About the event:
Michael Johnson is a Strategic Designer and Co-organiser of the Speculative Futures London Chapter, as a guest speaker to our Sydney chapter, he is going to share how he fell into speculative design helping to launch Blackmirror in the UK and working in a crazy studio. Explaining projects he has worked on connecting luxury jewellery to the stars or how they scared a bunch of Google Engineers locked up in a bunker Googleplex in San Francisco. The inspirational Speculative Designers he has worked with that create smart robots that want to unionise or guns that can be fired using social media activity.

He will explain the types of workshops he has been involved in on Cyborg Shamanism or how a utopian cult could deal with the homeless situation in the USA. As well as a broad range of his favourite projects from people he has met or speakers at Speculative Futures London. Including, how to use your poo to fuel your dinner party, why your grandparents hate smart devices, how someone reincarnated Elvis into a mouse or how far will drones influence our daily lives.

About the speaker:
Michael is a strategic designer that embeds people-led creativity into organisations today, tomorrow and in alternative futures. He has spent the past 20 years working across the creative industries in the UK, Europe and the US. From startups to agencies, design consultancies and inside corporates. Today he is a design consultant that helps corporates build products, services and embed new ways of working. Tomorrow he works with startups and corporates creating, advising and investing in new ventures. In alternative futures he’s a voyeur, researcher and evangelist of alternative thinkers and creators being the chapter lead of Speculative Futures London.
