We’re thrilled to announce a special edition of BcnRust taking place inside the Talent Arena at Mobile World Congress 2026, thanks to the collaboration between the Rust Foundation and Mobile World Capital Barcelona.

This unique event brings together hands‑on workshops, a community meetup, and exclusive access for Rust developers across Spain — including our friends from MadRust, represented by our meetup speaker Jorge Ortiz.

📅 Schedule — Wednesday, March 4th

Workshop 1 — General Access
9:30h – 10:45h
When Floats Lie: Performance, and why Rust keeps AI from corroding Speaker: Lawrence Freeman

"Floating-point numbers are prone to subtle failure modes that erode performance and correctness. We will build a small quantization framework in Rust, evolving step by step as we move from numeric fundamentals to Post-Training Quantization (PTQ) for AI inference. You’ll learn how quantization works at the bit level, and why Rust is becoming critical infrastructure for high-performance, resource-constrained, AI-driven systems."

This session is free to attend. Simply register at: 👉 https://talentarena.tech

Community Meetup — XPRO Access
13:30h – 14:30h (extended until 14:50 if needed)
Make Rusty AI
Building an agent from scratch using Rust and open‑source tools Speaker: Jorge Ortiz (MadRust)

"Artificial intelligence has infiltrated nearly every aspect of our lives. Assistants are now capable of performing tasks that were once science fiction, and we’ve started integrating them into our daily routines. But do you fully understand the concepts at play? Can you distinguish between a chatbot and an agent? Could you write your own AI tools? In this talk, we’ll build an agent from scratch using Rust and open-source tools. While the session will involve live-coding, the focus will be on understanding the core concepts and applications of artificial intelligence. It’s an opportunity to explore how emerging technologies are reshaping the way we interact with computing—and how you can contribute to this revolution."

Join us for a deep dive into practical Rust‑powered AI, followed by community discussion and networking with Rustaceans from Barcelona, Madrid, and beyond.

Workshop 2 — XPRO Access
16:45h – 18:00h
From fRusTrait‑ion to Async Mastery: Become a Rust Trait Hero in 90 minutes
Speaker: Lawrence Freeman

🎟️ About the XPRO Passes

Thanks to the Rust Foundation, we have 150 XPRO passes available for the community. These passes grant access to the meetup and the second workshop, as well as the full Talent Arena program.
We will distribute the codes in order of request via Meetup. Please only RSVP if you are certain you will attend — we want to ensure the passes reach people who will truly use them.
