Join us for February’s edition of the Blue Light Lounge: A Blue Valentine’s. No partner needed.

We’re starting later than usual — so you can enjoy a dinner date before the dancing. No lesson this month but a special treat instead.

Kicking off the night is something new: a documentary screening of "Born in Chicago", a film that traces the roots and rise of the city’s iconic electric blues scene, spotlighting the artists who brought Southern blues to Northern clubs — and to the world. Commentary within the film is what inspired our name! We’ll roll right into dancing afterwards, surrounded by soft lights, rich music, and the perfect basement-party vibe.

Schedule:
7:45p-9:15p: Special screening of "Born in Chicago".

9:15p to 1:00a: A Blues dance party DJed by Lady B and Gerry Thrash — featuring slow drags, smoldering grooves, and a healthy dose of breakup anthems, makeout songs, and ‘I’m better off without you’ blues.

Admission = movie night + dance party ticket.
Online: $10 (online sales end Fri, Feb 13th at 11:59 pm).
At the door: $15 (cash preferred, credit card and mobile payments accepted). Tickets are non-refundable. Transfers will be considered upon request: thebluelightloungesf@gmail.com.

What is Blues dancing?
Blues dancing is a family of partner and solo dances rooted in African American communities, developed alongside and danced to blues music. Today, blues dancing is practiced and celebrated across the country and around the world, extending beyond the communities from which it originated.

Who we are: The Blue Light Lounge is a new blues dance organization in San Francisco. Its name comes from the lore of historical "basement parties", where a blue light seen through the window meant that the party was on and the music was slow (blues!). We host monthly Blues dance parties every second Saturday of the month.
