Writers Who Read: Isola - Allegra Goodman
Details
January's hybrid meeting--IN PERSON at the Boulder Library Main Branch second floor Flatirons Meeting Room & ONLINE (see link when you register)--is Isola by Allegra Goodman (USA, 2025) on Sunday starting at 2:30 pm (for 2 hours).
Based on a historical person, Allegra Goodman's Marguerite is as real a 16th century woman as we are ever likely to find within a novel. Orphaned as a child, her fate is in the hands of an unscrupulous guardian who takes her fortune and eventually maroons her on an island in Canada. How she reacts to her situation aligns perfectly with the options available to her within her time, place, and social status—it all reads true. Prepare to be transported by Goodman's masterful use of language.
We ask that all attendees read the entire book in advance of the meeting. More information about other Writers Who Read meetings and our WwR Podcast can be found at: https://WritersWhoRead.com
