Lecture Title:
Welcoming Our Gods Back Home: An Introduction to Psychological Mysticism

Psychological mysticism proposes that all of our gods have been, and remain, internal, intrapsychic experiences, energies, images, and resources, rather than external, supernatural, interventionist Beings. Our most urgent, modern psychospiritual task, therefore, is to welcome our gods back home to the human psyche where they were birthed and where they belong. Until that happens, our religious, political, and cultural divisions will likely increase, and we will continue to do great harm to ourselves, to each other, and to our fragile nest.

Drawing on Jung’s Analytical Psychology, Celtic Spirituality, and a variety of mystical traditions, Dr. Wright will introduce an alternative to the monotheistic myth and God-image that has devolved for many into a dangerous religious delusion and a religious/political cult. The presentation and discussion will focus on psychological mysticism that has the potential to bridge our dangerous divisions in this interim time between meaningful collective myths.
