Furnace Mountain Trail to Trayfoot summit

Sneak up the backside of Shenandoah National park. Don't have to worry about skyline drive closure! Meet at Madison Run Road Trailhead in Grottoes, Va. 38.257810,-78.772450. We will hike up Madison Run fire road a short distance and take the Furnace Mountain Trail to the summit of Trayfoot mountain. We will turn around and head down and take a spur trail to the summit of Furnace mountain, then return to Madison Run and back to the cars. This is an 8 mile hike with 2500 foot elevation gain. Dress appropriately for the cold weather (25-38 degrees). Bring a lunch. Considered a Hard hike on All Trails.
