The Winter Solstice is upon us — it's a time to slow down, rest, and start thinking about the ways we want to grow when the sun returns in the spring. To honor the longest night of the year, let's hike up to a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Continental Divide. Rattlesnake Gulch is a relatively short trail (about 3 miles round trip) with big views.

All paces are welcome! We'll go slowly and stop often to regroup. No one hikes alone. Check out trail details here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/rattlesnake-gulch-trail--6

Feel free to bring a warm beverage for the trail. I'll bring Tarot and Oracle cards — if it's not too bitterly cold at the top, we can stop and do some intention setting for the new year!

On the way back, we'll have an optional coffee stop at Boxcar Coffee in Table Mesa.

Notes — please read!

  • We love dogs, but please leave your furry friend at home for this one.
  • The hike starts in Eldorado Canyon State Park, which does charge an entrance fee ($10 per vehicle). If you have the Keep Colorado Wild Pass on your vehicle registration, that gets you in for free.
  • For anyone who wants to carpool, let's meet at the Eldorado Canyon Park and Ride at 8:40 am.
  • We'll likely encounter wintery conditions on the trails, so please bring microspikes! The Wine Hiking Society has some great resources on how to dress and pack for winter hikes: their 10 packing essentials and their day hike packing list.
  • Per the lists above, you are responsible for bringing your own water and snacks.
