SPEAKER Tom Hunt is a retired systems engineer and project manager, with a degree in physics and maths, certificate in electronics, and passion for sailing, photography, art and music, now living in Oak Flats, NSW.
After 31 years in the IT division at BHP Port Kembla developing and managing commercial systems, he built his family’s dream home on the shore of Lake Illawarra in 2003. Now living just above sea level, he became concerned by the reports that climate change might threaten his lifestyle investment. He started studying the science to check out what was actually going on, and was surprised by what he learned.
After his lakeside building project, he worked as a project manager at the University of Wollongong, on space utilisation and later on sustainable transport for university commuters. On retiring in 2016 he decided he would do what he could to help resolve the climate change issue, from engineering to protesting to lobbying. He likes to share stories of the more interesting things he has learned along the way.
