What we’re about

### OUR MISSION

### Is to create a holistic and diverse hub for the cyber community in Scotland

All levels of experience are welcome, from those aspiring to enter the industry through to security experts. Our purpose is to provide regular, informal meetups where individuals can gather together to; network, and discuss the latest industry trends & hot topics within the security sector. Although still in our infancy, we are overwhelmed with the support we have received from our community.

### OUR HISTORY

### CSC originated from the merger of two InfoSec community meet-ups

Born out of a merger of two thriving security communities in late 2018. Former lead organiser of Security Scotland, Stu Hirst, and former lead organiser of Scotland Connect, Harry McLaren, decided to bring together these groups to diversify, unify and ignite a passionate and thriving Scottish security community under the newly created Cyber Scotland Connect.

Please ensure you have reviewed our code of conduct which outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behaviour.

#### Community Support: Keeping CSC Accessible for All

Cyber Scotland Connect has always been, and will always be, free to attend. We believe that barriers to entry—especially for students, career-switchers, and those currently seeking new opportunities—should be non-existent.
How you can help: If you are established in your career and find value in our sessions, we invite you to Pay It Forward.
While there is zero obligation, we have launched a Buy Me a Coffee page. Your contributions help us cover our essential running costs—including venue hire, platform fees, and refreshments—ensuring that those in our community who are currently unemployed or studying can continue to attend and network at no cost.

  • Tickets: Always £0.
  • The Goal: A sustainable, community-funded future for CSC.
  • The Impact: Supporting the next generation of Scotland’s cyber talent.

  • 18:00 - Own your detections, gain confidence in coverage - A practical guide to building detection engineering capability from Steve Cooper (BlueTeamSteve on CSC Discord)
Detection engineering is often seen as complex and out of reach—but it doesn't have to be. This talk provides a practical guide to taking ownership of your detection coverage and building a detection engineering capability. A clear understanding of your organisation's detection coverage reduces risk, accelerates response, and improves security tooling ROI. Whether you're building capability internally, managing an MSSP/MDR vendor, or learning detection engineering for the first time, this session delivers actionable strategies to move from uncertainty to confidence. Suitable for SOC/SecOps practitioners and managers, but accessible to anyone with an interest in cyber and a willingness to learn.

  • 19:20 - Talk C
