2nd Melbourne Analytics Charity Christmas Gala
Details
Last year the Melbourne analytics community came together and raised $1k each for the RSPCA and Medecins Sans Frontieres, this year we are being more ambitious.
The plan is to provide 130 disadvantaged kids from the Cambodian Children's Trust (CCT) with back to school packs. At US$40 each that is $7,400 in our money. See the videos below for more details...
In order to raise the money, we are again holding a Melbourne Analytics Charity Christmas Gala. There will be a charge to attend, but all money received (less the small % Paypal charges us) will be passed to the CCT. As usual and thanks to the sponsors of Data Science Melbourne, the event will be fully catered for.
If you cannot attend but would still like to donate, or you plan to attend but would like to make a more sizable (tax deductible) contribution, then you can do so directly via the link here (https://www.cambodianchildrenstrust.org/how-to-help/become-a-donor/). If you prefer this route, please let us know when you have donated, and we will manually update your attendance (but remember to tell us what name you go by on the meetup group).
If you use the Paypal route through Meetup, then after paying via Paypal, make sure you click on the link at the end of the process that will return you to the Meetup site. If you close your browser without clicking this link, your payment will be processed but your attendance will not be recorded on Meetup.
If you are a student we want to encourage you to come. The charge for students/concessions will be $15 (unless you want to pay full price). You can adjust the amount from within Paypal. For all others, please feel free to adjust the price upwards - ticket proceeds for this event will be roughly half what we need to raise.
Tara will be in Melbourne fund raising in November. Hopefully we'll have reached our target by then and will be able to give her the good news, and the cash!
Thanks Everyone

/*--- our ticket price algorithm ---
The entrance charge is elastic according to our target achievement algorithm...
price = ($7,400 - amount raised) / remaining tickets
where:
amount raised = f(personal donations*,current price,tickets sold)
remaining tickets = (expected attendance - tickets sold)
expected attendance = f(days to event,tickets sold,price,venue capacity,quality of speakers)
Hence make your parameter assumptions and solve to determine the optimal time to purchase a ticket. Current estimate is a price of $33.78 per remaining ticket will get us to our goal. The price will be recalculated according to the algorithm every 25 tickets sold.
*$1,967 as of 8th Nov. Thank you Sean!
