Tour Historic Spanish Point
Details
Historic Spanish Point is primarily an outdoor museum that is part of Selby Gardens. The 30 acre campus on Little Sarasota Bay contains five thousand years of history.
The walking tour is about 2 miles and will include discussions of native americans who first came to the area 5000 years ago and the mounds they left behind; the first pioneers, the Webbs, who settled the area in 1867; the Guptill house built in 1901 and on the National Register of Historic Places and replicas of other buildings used by the Webbs; Bertha Palmer and her influence on Sarasota and identification of plants used by native americans and the pioneers for shelter, medicine, food, clothing etc. There will be stops along the tour where you can sit down.
FEE: The admission fee is $20. Arrive by 10:15 to pay. The tour starts at 10:30 sharp. Selby members can get in for $12. You must bring your membership card and only people on the card will get in for $12. Everyone else pays $20.
Wear you I.D. badge so I can identify members for the tour.
