## Overview

Shake off the post-holiday fog with a crisp winter wander through the woods that inspired A. A. Milne. We’ll trace quiet byways and forest tracks and pass Piglet’s House, cross Pooh Bridge for a quick game of Poohsticks, and loop back through mixed woodland and open commons. We will also pass some rivers and a 14th Century Church. Expect classic Sussex scenery, a few steady ups and downs, and big sky views when the trees open up.

## Route at a glance

  • Distance: ~12–14 miles
  • Pace: Medium / medium-fast (I keep the group together with catch-up stops, so do not worry)
  • Terrain: Forest tracks, field edges, some muddy sections if it’s been wet
  • Elevation: Rolling—nothing extreme, but it’s not flat
  • Toilets: Limited on route; treat it as no facilities (we’ll use a pub/tearoom if convenient)

> Lunch: Short picnic stop near the Pooh Bridge/Hartfield side (bring food).
> Finish: Back at Ashurst (Kent) Station before dusk; we will go to a pub nearby afterwards.

## Getting there

  • Train: Ashurst (Kent) is on the Uckfield line (from London Bridge).
  • Parking: Limited near the station—arrive early if driving.

## What to bring

  • Sturdy hiking boots (mud likely in January)
  • Warm layers + waterproof (hat & gloves recommended)
  • At least 1L water + packed lunch/snacks
  • Headtorch/torch (short daylight)
  • Good spirit & a friendly, positive mindset

## Group guidelines (important)

  • Please stay with or behind the hike leader so we keep a steady pace and no one goes off-route.
  • I give regular catch-ups (especially after hills).
  • This is a voluntary group activity—you’re responsible for your own safety and belongings. The organiser accepts no risk or liability.
  • Be respectful to people, animals and the environment.
  • No-shows / late cancellations: please keep your RSVP updated; repeated issues may affect future attendance.
