Robertson Mtn - Corbin Mtn Loop - Strenuous ~ 10.75 miles/~2,800 ft elev gain
Details
This is a great winter hike that does not rely on Skyline Drive being open.
Note: the hike as posted includes water crossings which can be icy or high. If weather indicates it is risky, we will return from Robertson Mtn on Corbin Hollow Trail instead of Corbin Mtn Trail.
Hike Description: We will start our hike from the Old Rag Parking (Upper Lot). We will walk a short distance up State Rd 600 and continue onto Weakly Hollow Fire Rd where we will make a 1.5-mile gentle ascent to Robertson Mountain Trail. As we turn right, the climb up Robertson Mountain Trail will be the most challenging part of our day ascending ~ 1,700 feet in about 1.7 miles. Once we reach the summit we will be rewarded with spectacular views and a well-deserved snack break. We will continue down Robertson Mountain Trail to Old Rag Fire Rd where we will turn right, pass Corbin Hollow Trail and proceed to Corbin Mountain Trail. We will follow Corbin Mountain Trail making a few small ascents over Corbin Mtn before starting the longer descent down to Nicholson Hollow Trail where we will turn right once again and continue the remaining 1.5 miles alongside the Hughes River.
