Moon Tree Way at Haywood Community College on New Year's Eve
Details
Haywood Community College has long been known for having a tree grown from a seed taken on a moon mission. Now there are two trees near each other. We will be watching for those trees when we walk at HCC on December 31.
To get to Moon Tree Way from our start point, we will go clockwise on the Bobcat Trail, and then go behind the Dahlia Garden, past the Moon Trees, and past Ironwood. When we get to the Bird and Butterfly Garden, we will rejoin Bobcat Trail to finish our first loop. Our second loop will be totally on the Bobcat Trail. All together, it isn't over 3 miles. Part of the walk is on pavement, part on well-groomed trail, and part on not-as-well groomed trail. There is some small elevation change.
As you enter the campus from Jones Cove Road, go to the first parking lot on the left. We will gather there and then head out.
Be sure to dress for the weather. I'm going to wear tennis shoes, unless it has rained a lot recently (in which case, I will wear light hiking boots). I plan to bring one walking stick, just in case. As always, you are urged to bring plenty of water and a protein snack. Dogs are welcome. Trail strollers should not have any problem. There are no bathrooms available that morning, so take care of such needs before you arrive.
