Easter Hike: New Section of Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach to The Buena! Hop in.
Details
Many in our group (like me) are imports, eh? So Easter Sunday is kinda slow. I mean... we don't have family out in the suburbs, and we're not going to church are we? They won't let me in! Further, the entire city sloooow in the morning. So, let's hike and grab an Easter Sunday beer.
Taronga to Balmoral is our usual hike... ! It’s an Aussie fahkin' beauty of a due to its diversity… Of course the ferry ride from CQuay to Taronga (ferry leaves at 915am - be early, as school holidays are on, and families will be heading to Taronga Zoo) is amazing, and the first stint of the walk transports you to another part of Australia – it’s a rainforest start to Bradley’s Head with perfect views of Sydney Opera House / Harbour Bridge. Turning the corner we’ll stop at a secluded beach then carry on to Taylor’s Bay – the greenery / plant life there will amaze all.
Now, now... the government spent $9m on a new walking trail that's somewhere within this hike. It just opened this month. Let's find it. Any upgrade to this amazing Sydney Harbour hike... we must find it!
From there the walk heads to Chowder Bay, one of the coolest little beaches that not many Sydneysiders know of. There’s a café / bathroom stop there, then up the only real incline to George’s Head: a historic military spot with the most picture perfect view from Manly to the CBD. We head back into the bush for a 15min walk to the Balmoral Stairs that will guide us down to Balmoral Beach.
Post-hike the bus stop is only steps away. It's a quick swap over to another bus to Wynyard Station. You can head home from there? Or, a short bus away is The Buena - opens at noon. Feel free to join me for a beer / bite. I'm going to open the laptop at 1230pm for a game of Texas Hold 'em poker and Beer 2 and 3 and some laughs.
Post-pub you have many transport options from The Buena - the 100 bus heads down Military Road to Wynyard Station or there's another bus that goes back to Taronga Zoo if you've parked there.
5 things:
a) Don't be late, and feel free to bring mates / dates;
b) $10 cash or PayID;
c) Communication will be in the "Event Comments";
d) Show up if you RSVP "yes" / let's stop with the "dog ate homework" = "public transport dramas" excuses;
e) Bring some good energy, smiles and chat.
I love, love, love this hike. At times you’ll know you’re in Sydney… then you’ll think you’re in tropical Queensland… then you’ll find a new beach you’ve never seen. It’s such a beauty. See you there. MJ
