“In the Royal National Park Olympic Pool is much better than Karloo Pool…” Wow. That’s a huge statement I’ve heard as Karloo is the prettiest rockpool I’ve seen in Sydney. So? Let’s do them both on the same hike and chat about what’s better over a beer and meal at the pub in Heathcoate.

THE HIKE. 11kms.
We meet at Engadine Station… bathroom (fast – prefer you use the one on the train so we can get moving). Chat. And woosh, off we go. Immediately, we’re in The Royal National Park, and it seems like we’re a million miles from Sydney. The first +2kms is pretty flat, then it’s a huuuuuuge decline to Olympic Pool. The beauty of traveling this direction is the incline at the end of the hike to Heathcoate Station is less severe – might as well do the easier direction, eh? And, it’s always safer to do the decline bit when we have fresh legs.

We’ll stop at Olympic Pool for a 20minute swim. Snack. Water. These pools are a peaceful Mother Nature at her finest… from there it’s a 3.5kms Kangaroo Creek hike to Karloo Pool, and this one is a stunner. I love it. We’ll stop for a shorter break yet another swim. And a perve. This spot is a favourite for the locals yet still a hard-to-find gem. From there…

Sure, there’s an incline. No hike in the Royal National Park is a free lunch. But it’s not that bad, and it’s a fahkin’ beautiful finish.

THE BAR.
The Arbour Heathcoate is a newly renovated pub with pretty damn good food. It's comfy. It's close to the train station. It's a perfect spot to finish...

Big day. Fun day. A Battle of the Pools kinda day. And some well-earned food, drinks at the pub as we always do. Another beauty for our team. See you there! MJ
