Sierra Club to Conduct Service Outing at Indiangrass Prairie

Saturday, February 14, 2026, 9 am to noon, the Houston Sierra Club will work with the Coastal Prairie Conservancy (CPC) at its’ Indian Grass Prairie Preserve (IGP) for a service outing. We’ll enjoy camaraderie and have lunch in the City of Katy. The Sierra Club gives back so that the Katy Prairie is protected for wildlife, solitude, quiet, and enjoyment.

Bring a daypack, 2 qt water, snacks, lunch money, camera, and clothes for the weather. It’s usually cold in February so wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toed shoes. No pets, firearms, or radios. Put cell phones on vibrate and enjoy the solitude, quiet, and natural sounds of the Katy Prairie.

A Sierra Club sign-in agreement/liability waiver must be filled out/signed by all participants at the IGP. Group size is 20 participants, plus your leader. Before the outing, you must sign the CPS’s “Stewardship Saturdays” volunteer application and waiver of liability at their website: www.coastalprairieconservancy.org, where you click on “Get Involved”, “Volunteer”, “Stewardship Saturdays”, and “Go to Event Calendar”.

If you have COVID symptoms or are sick don’t come! We want everyone to be safe. We’ll be with individuals who are vaccinated/unvaccinated. It’s each person’s choice to participate in this outing.

For voluntary carpooling from Houston, meet on the W side of Starbucks in Meyerland Plaza, 7:30 am, sharp! Look for a gray Honda CRV hybrid (WMP 3632). Directions to the IGP are:

1. W from Hou on I-10 to Pederson Rd.
2) Exit Pederson Rd, turn rt, go N to US Hwy 90.
3) Turn lt on Hwy 90, go W 100 yds, turn rt on Morrison Rd/FM 2855.
4) Go N on Morrison Rd, past FM 529, to Pattison Rd.
5) Turn rt on Pattison Rd, go N to Herbert Rd.
6) Turn lt on Herbert Rd, go W 1 mile, turn lt into entrance for IGP, 31975 Herbert Rd, Waller, Tx 77484.
