More information on the location: Wattle Park is located on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi‑wurrung People. This landscape, shaped by a network of waterways, was rich in resources & held great significance for food gathering & sustenance. The water systems carry deep cultural meaning, serving as places of connection & community. Along Kooyongkoot Creek (also known as Gardiners Creek), the Wurundjeri Woi‑wurrung hosted important gatherings, meetings, & corroborees. These waterways also provided vital travel & trade routes, linking people & communities across the region. Wattle Park, named in honour of Australia’s proposed national floral emblem, the Golden Wattle, was officially opened in 1917. It stands today as the only surviving example in Australia of a pleasure park created, owned, & operated by a transport authority. Its unique purpose was twofold: to encourage the use of transport services & to provide the public with a recreational destination at the end of the line.
