**It's best to get on line at main gate no later than 8:45. We start hiking at 9:15
*Rough Cut Brewery is 6 minutes west of the park entrance.
The Hike:
We start hiking at 9:15 am from the Visitor Center. Please arrive a bit earlier. We will have great views of the Catskills, Lake Minnewaska and the surrounding areas from various viewpoints. The 8.5 miles is a combination of footpaths (5 mi.) and carriage roads (3.5mi).
The route:
- From the Visitor's Center, head downhill on the road about 250 yard to the Beacon Hill Carriage Road.
- Take carriage road to Beacon Hill and the yellow trail.
- Take yellow trail to the open field.
- Cross open field and head to the cliffs above Lake Minnewaska.
- From the cliffs, head south on red carriage road to the end of the lake.
- Take red Millbrook Mtn. Trail to the clifftops of Millbrook Mtn.
- After a short break, continue on the red Gertrude's Nose Trail.
- Stay on red around the Nose all the way to the yellow Carriage Road.
- Take yellow road 1.25 miles to red carriage road and turn left.
- Take red to Visitor's Center.
Distance: approx. 8.5 miles (3.5 of the miles are easy carriage roads)
Pace: a moderate 2.3 - 2.4mph pace.
Elevation gain: Approx. 1,400 feet
Difficulty: rocky trails;
Gear: Appropriate footwear; clothing for warmer temperatures; poles may be helpful for some people; water; snacks/lunch
