Introduction to Old School Star Trek RPG - FASA 1980s

Hello everybody!

Back in the early days of RPGs, the FASA company (now defunct) issued the first Star Trek RPG. Needless to say we Trekkies (or the more modern term Trekkers) fell in love with the game. We devoured the basic, game books and the Klingon, Orion, and Romulan supplements cover to cover. We played the published scenarios and developed our own home brew games.

If you're interested in all things Star Trek and enjoy the Star Trek Universe, you may have an interest in this game session. My goal is to introduce you to a game system I enjoy while we all have fun. In this session, I'll introduce the basic concepts and mechanics for the FASA "Star Trek the RPG" game through a series of short, hands-on, playable scenarios.

You don't need to bring anything to this game session except your curiosity, enthusiasm, and imagination. I'll provide all the props and resources we need to learn how to play the game.

During this session we'll address these items:
1. An overview of the game and related game aids.
2. An explanation of die rolls for success or failure of challenged tasks.
3. A review of the statistics for pre-generated characters.
4. A discussion of basic game mechanics for combat, movement, and skill rolls.
4. A play through of a few short scenarios representing different aspects of the game such as:
a. Melee and ranged combat.
b. Ship systems and Engineering
c. Exploration and equipment use.
5. A discussion regarding the level of background details you like to experience in the game environment. (I love props, handouts, minis, and visual aids and probably have a tendency to overdo them.)
6. A critique and feedback of the game system to better suit your needs as gamers.
