For this 5.0 mile hike we’ll meet at the west side of the Cary Street Kroger parking lot (formerly Baker's Crust location). We'll head west on Cary St., crossing I-195, before entering Windsor Farms, where we will visit Agecroft Hall and the Virginia House. The return route continues east through Windsor Farms, re-crossing I-195 and traveling through Byrd Park to Fountain Lake. Then we’ll cross that pesky expressway (one more time) to return to our starting location at City Stadium. It’s likely that today your Host will take you to places you’ve never been before so be prepared to be amazed! And you’re sure to learn a little History you didn't know you didn't know. We hope you enjoy it!
The good news is this is strictly an urban hike. There is no requirement to be able to ford a stream, or possess the ability to recognize toxic plants, or to negotiate rocks, roots, fallen trees, damp trail conditions, stairs, steep ascents, vines, low hanging branches, culverts, uncertain footing on hills, reptiles, spider webs, scorpions, birds of prey, or hostile waterfowl.
If you are unfamiliar with the meet up location, add a few minutes to your travel schedule so you can find us. If you don't have a clue about the location of City Stadium, click on the link to "City Stadium" located just above "How to Find Us" in the event description. An interactive map will be displayed and if "Directions" (upper left) is selected the best route from your current location to the Meet Up rendezvous spot will be calculated for you. Before the hike be sure to place anything that might invite theft in your trunk before you leave your car parked while you are hiking.
Participants should be able to maintain a pace of 2.5 miles per hour. This is a very dog friendly hike.
• What to bring
Water bottle, clothing appropriate for the season, cap or bonnet, aspirin, sun block, insect repellent, band aids (as needed), & practical footwear.
• Important to know

  • Restroom facilities will be limited until we get back to Byrd Park and there are few woods available, so pace yourself wisely on that morning coffee. (You can thank me later.)
