See all- Hap~Pie Hour and the Strang Hall Collective Happiest of Happy HoursThe Upper Crust, Overland Park, KS
Life is short. Let’s have dessert first, then dinner in Downtown Overland Park on Friday, May 16th starting at 4 pm.
Here’s the deal. On the third Friday of most months, The Upper Crust Pie Bakery offers preordered pie flights, so 3 slices for $13. Believe me when I tell you they are so good that I’ve ordered pies for Thanksgiving from them. The preorders are due by 5 pm on the third Tuesday of the month (May 13). Preorder here. Hap~pie Hour runs from 12-4:30 pm that Friday.
We will pick up our pie flights, then head down the street for dinner at Strang Hall. Strang Hall is a chef-forward collective food court in a casual, modern atmosphere with a plethora of options for your cravings.
The Strang Hall Happiest of Happy Hours is until 6 pm and specials are $7 house wines, $8 select cocktails, and $3 domestic cans. View the Strang Hall menus here.
Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get into. 😋
- Saunter the Overland Park ArboretumOverland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, Overland Park, KS

There will be a nature photography contest exhibition at the visitor center. Admission to the Arboretum is $7 for adults and can be purchased here or at the gift shop. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. In case of precipitation, the event will cancel, so make sure to download the Meetup app and turn on notifications in case plans change. At the arboretum, kindly take nothing but photos and memories.
See the quote below attributed to John Muir:
Hiking — "I don't like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains — not hike! Do you know the origin of that word 'saunter?' It's a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, 'A la sainte terre,' 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them."
