About us
Walking in and around Northamptonshire
Welcome! We are a group of working age people from in and around Northamptonshire who enjoy walking and socialising together. Our walks take place on Sundays, around two weekends a month. New members are warmly welcomed, so if you’re new to the area, looking to extend your social circle or would like someone else to take the map-reading strain, please come along and give us a go!
Our walking community
Our walks are free and led by an experienced, volunteer walk leader. Typically, we’ll walk 8 – 10 miles each walk, although we do offer shorter walks on a regular basis. We usually start walking at 10.30am in the morning, finishing around 3pm.
Our routes take us on field paths linking the beautiful villages and waterways of Northamptonshire, stopping for a welcome rest and a drink in a local pub along the way whenever the route allows.
In the summer we often venture further afield such as the Cotswolds, the Chilterns and the Peak District and also plan local evening walks. We also organise regular social events and trips away.
We publish an outline walks schedule on our Facebook page, and aim to publish more details around a month before the walk takes place on Facebook, MeetUp and the Go walking section Ramblers Walk Finder.

Local walk - Great Cransley, figure of 8 walk, 9 miles, walk leader Ray
Great Cransley - The Three Cranes, Loddington Road, Kettering NN14 1PY, GBThis walk is a figure-of-8 walk, where we walk a morning loop, returning to the start point at lunchtime, and after lunch walk a second route in the afternoon. This means people can walk the morning loop only, the afternoon loop only, or walk all day. If you are walking all day please bring some lunch with you, as there may not be time to buy food during the break.
Please park considerately around the village and meet around the triangle of grass near the Three Cranes pub, ready to start walking promptly at 10.30am.https://maps.app.goo.gl/C5hxvg9Xb4gQuJa27
NN14 1PY, SP830767,
https://w3w.co/commit.twilight.crackerFor the morning loop we will walk North-East to Thorpe Malsor via the Cransley reservoir dam, then we will head towards the A14, walk by it for a while, before heading back to Great Cransley to the start point and lunch. The morning loop is around 4.5 miles.
We will have our packed lunch near the Three Cranes pub in Great Cransley. It would’ve been nice to stop for a quick drink at the pub, but it seems to have largely closed (for the winter at least).
In the afternoon we will start between 12:45-1pm from outside the Three Cranes, if you are walking in the afternoon only please arrive to walk from 12:45, though we may delay the start until 1pm if we haven’t quite finished our lunch. We will head West to Loddington via Cransley wood, before looping back to Great Cransley. The afternoon loop is around 4.5 miles.
If anyone wants to, there may be the option to go to a pub in Broughton after the walk for a quick drink.
Everyone is welcome, whether you’re an established member of the group or haven’t walked with us before. New Members are welcome to join us. Note the walk is a mix of tracks and footpaths and may be muddy in places. Please wear appropriate clothing for walking in the country, and walking boots.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome, though please note there may be stiles, livestock and other dogs on the walk. Any dog owners are fully responsible for their dog. More information is available on the Ramblers website https://www.ramblers.org.uk/advice/safety/dog-walkers.aspx.
Please be aware that all of our walk details are shared on the Ramblers walk finder, our Facebook page and in our Meetup group.
