This group includes events for standup comedy in English all over Lisbon, Portugal.
Those who love comedy, or who are curious to come to their first comedy show, all are welcome. Shows will all take place in English, and may include some adult or edgy topics, so please be aware in case you're sensitive to some topics.
So come have some drinks, share some laughs, and make new friends!

Expat life isn’t easy. Between deciding which overpriced brunch spot to hit on Sunday and finding a co-working space that’s close to a gym full of hot people you’ll never talk to, the emotional baggage piles up fast.
That’s why we created Expats Anonymous — a stand-up comedy night/group therapy session for anyone who's ever tried (and failed) to build a life abroad without crying in public at least once.
Each session, we tackle a theme from the expat rollercoaster. And this time, we’re talking about the real adventure: “Dating Abroad.”
Sure, it seems like a good idea to date someone who doesn’t immediately see through your issues — but surprise! They’ve got baggage too. And sometimes you don't get subtitles.

Have you ever seen a comedian performing stand-up comedy and thought “I wish I could do that” or “I wish I had that kind of confidence”, but have no idea where to begin? Well here is your opportunity! Not only will this class prepare you for the world of stand-up comedy by teaching you comedy styles and joke writing but it will prepare you for public speaking in general by teaching you stage presence and how to project confidence when standing in front of a group. At the end of this 6 week course you and your classmates will get an opportunity to try out your new jokes on stage in a class show in front of a crowd filled with friends and family!
Your teacher, Dan Burt, will be guiding you along the way. He has taught how to perform/write comedy in the US for over fifteen years. He’s performed stand-up, improv and sketch comedy on some of the biggest stages in the US. Currently you can see Dan headlining at just about every English speaking comedy venue in Lisbon. Dan also has a degree in public speaking. He not only can help you with your comedy and public speaking but has lots of advice about the business in general.
For a limited time, we are making this course available for just €99 for the first five signups for the entire 6-week period. The usual price is for the course is €180 (for all 6 classes) We only have FIVE SLOTS available for this €99 introductory price so sign up ASAP!
Each class runs for 2 hours from 6pm to 8pm. You will receive 12 hours of instruction in total plus some practical on-stage experience. At the end of the classes there will be a show at Selva Comedy Cafe so you will get to watch seasoned comedians take the stage and gain a stronger understanding of all the concepts you've learned in the classroom.
The dates for each 2 hour class of the course will be (starting at 6.00pm):

Stand-up for beginners is not only a class that will teach you how to write a joke but how to improve your public speaking in general. Whether it’s how to give a better presentation at work, giving a great toast at your best friend’s wedding, or just talking to a stranger at a party, this class will increase your confidence and ability to speak in public.
Stand-up for beginners is a six week course, that will end in a show where you get to perform five minutes of material in a friendly and supportive environment.
Week 1, Standing Up: People’s biggest fear in life, over death, is public speaking. In week one you will conquer this fear and take the big step of standing up on a stage in front of your classmates and working on getting comfortable being the focus of attention while speaking.
Week 2, Story Telling: After becoming more comfortable being the focus of attention you will start working on your ability to make what you are saying more interesting (possibly even funny) through the art of story telling. This is also a form of stand-up!
Week 3, Joke Telling Styles: This week you are going to start finding the comic in you! Now that we know the art of story telling you will learn several more styles of comedy like one liners, observational, wordplay, character, current events, and crowd work to name a few.
Week 4, Writing Jokes: Let’s get writing! Now that you have picked a style of comedy you are interested in, you will start crafting your first five minutes. In this class you will take baby steps towards writing jokes using your own voice and then deliver them on stage.
Week 5, Building Out & Punching Up: Once you have established some jokes you will work on building out and extending your set with similar material and punching up by adding more jokes to your current work.
Week 6, Creating a Tight Five: It’s almost show time! In your final week you will spend your time polishing your material and tightening the screws on your act for your big show!

The comedy scene in Lisbon is growing and alongwith that our comedians have more and more material they'd love to showcase in front of you. Join us at this special split bill showcase featuring two handpicked comedians from Lisbon's vibrant comedy scene. We'll add in some amazing vibes from our lovely hosts and this will be a night to remember!
The comedians will do longer sets during this split bill so that you can get to know them better and they can get deeper into their material. This is why unlike our other shows we limit this show to 2-3 comedians.
This week we feature two of Lisbon's favorite comics - Hugo Rosa (@hugohrosa) and Clinton Starghill (@cstar1201).Hugo Rosa, veteran comic, is a hilarious data scientist-slash-over-concerned parent-slash-delusional chick magnet looking to make sense of it all.
Are you also struggling to find the answer to some hard questions?,What is a spurious correlation? Does the perfect LEGO set exist? Can any man find anything the first time around? Than Hugo is your guy! Join the data geek revolution! It's a whole lot of laughs – don't miss out!
Clinton Starghill is a stand-up comedian originally from Houston, TX. He started performing in New York City and spent the last 11 years in Geneva, Switzerland where he founded Geneva Stand-Up Comedy and ran a monthly open mic night. He can now be found performing in Lisbon and other stages around Europe. When Clinton is not on stage, you can find him reading stuff on the internet or doing miscellaneous dad things. Doors open at 8.30PM. Come enjoy some drinks! The show starts at 9PM so please be comfortably seated by then, drinks in hand.
The schedule is kind of like this:
8.30PM - Doors open and we start serving drinks and snacks
9.00PM - Comedy show starts
9.45PM - Short break, drink refill, perhaps a sneaky quick snack.
10.30PM - Show ends and there is time for more drinks, laughter, and merry making!See you there!
The venue (Selva Comedy Cafe) will serve craft beer, wine, cocktails (espresso martini, g&t, lisbon mule, etc.), Why Not organic sodas, kombucha, and some light snacks!
How it works: Please register to reserve your spot through Eventbrite and arrive by 8.30PM. We have VERY limited seating so it's best to reserve your spot and arrive on time! We hold your reservation until 8.45PM.

PS: This event is for attendees ages 15 and over. A lot of the jokes and content are adult themed. Since this is a performance art event, please don't bring your babies or dogs to it unless they can stay quiet while the performances are taking place.
