Greyrock Trail in Poudre Canyon
Details
LET’S try a new hike for me! I’ve heard it’s an awesome trail. 😎 Trail conditions are usually good with blooming pasque flowers this time of year…however hikes that are scheduled weeks in advance are always subject to date/time change or cancellation due to weather, trail conditions or closures, or other unforeseen circumstances.
Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous: about 8 miles with about 2,500 feet elevation gain.
HIKE DESCRIPTION: Greyrock Mountain (7,513') stands prominently over the north rim of Poudre Canyon, 25 minutes from downtown Fort Collins, Colorado. The Grey Rock Trail and Grey Rock Meadows Trail form a loop around the conical formation, with a short but challenging spur that leads to the summit. Once at the summit, we should have a great view of the surrounding area looking down into Fort Collins and up into the canyon. We can also see the Mummy Range in the northern part of RMNP. Bring snacks/lunch as we will find a place to take a break. See the following hike in Alltrails, but we will do the loop portion of the hike counter-clockwise: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/greyrock-trail
DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW PARK RULES: Dogs must be on leash at all times. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement.
ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS: We will meet at the Greyrock Trailhead. To get there, you can click on the alltrails link above and click directions. If you use google maps, you can type in “Greyrock Trailhead” for directions. Alternatively here are directions: Travel 11 miles northwest of Fort Collins on U.S. Highway 287 to Colorado Highway 14. Turn left on CO 14, and travel 9 miles to the Greyrock parking lot on the south side of the road.
IMPORTANT: This is a participate at your own risk event! Life is risky. I am not a professional guide and am simply hosting this event. By signing up for this hike you acknowledge that you are capable of performing this hike and that you are solely responsible for your own safety.
NO SHOWS: If you are a no-show to 2 hikes, you will be booted from this meetup group. So please change your RSVP to “not going” if you are unable to make it.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Water, snacks, layers of clothing, good hiking shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug repellant, sunglasses, hat, gloves, hiking poles (if you find them helpful), and anything else you deem essential.
