What we’re about
If you love London, love history and love walking then come join Paul and Tim's Walks and Talks. Paul is an accredited guide, a lecturer who is passionate about sharing the history of London with others.
Tim is a historian, lecturer and author of a best selling guide to London (Walking London's History: 2000 years in 15 walks).
Together, we have been lecturing on London's history and taking people round this wonderful city for over ten years. We have worked with education institutes, museums, London clubs and groups and guided Londoners and tourists alike.
We offer high quality talks on London's history from Whitechapel to White City, from Boudicca to Virginia Woolf. We offer walks (never more than 20 people) to the hidden London where tourists rarely go, and tell stories that they don't hear. This group is for those who love their history but want to explore it in a non-scholarly fashion with friendly and relaxed people, hopefully sharing a meal, a drink and good conversation.

or just outside at 11.15 for the start of the walk.
Today we explore the recently restored Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington. Originally laid out as a park and a chance for children to explore nature, Abney Park became London's best place to be buried by 1840.
By then funerals had become big business. Favoured by non conformists there are all sorts of people here from Abolitionists to music hall stars to lion tamers!
Come and hear the story of all of these and see Watt's Mound where all your favourite hymns were written next to babbling Hackney Brook, as we trace the history of the park and its buildings and the stories behind.
Not the easiest place to get to, the nearest station is Stoke Newington (trains run from Liverpool Street), failing that there is a bus from Finsbury Park or Dalston Junction.
