Info on the Wikipedia website: Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita is a satirical novel that blends fantasy, political commentary, and a retelling of the Faust legend. Written between 1928 and 1940, it was suppressed by Soviet censors and not fully published until after Bulgakov's death. The story follows the Devil (Woland) as he visits 1930s Moscow with a retinue of demons, causing chaos while a parallel narrative unfolds in ancient Jerusalem, depicting the story of Pontius Pilate and Jesus Christ.
