What we’re about
We're folks who like to dance! We go to all sorts of dances, from ballroom to swing and to freestyle-express-yourself dances. Dancing is good for you, so jump in and join in the fun! Come on out for a community square dance at the Hillside Club, open to everyone! With caller Connor Maguire! Round Top Stringband plays live old-time music! No experience necessary; no partner necessary. Kids welcome. The caller teaches each dance right before we dance it.
Doors open: 7:45 pm
Square dancing: 8:00-10:00 pm
Old-time jam (separate room): 6:45-8:00 pmThis is a queer-friendly event where everyone can dance any role. The caller uses the terms "ladies" and "gents" in some of the dances; these terms can refer to anyone who is dancing those roles.
BYOB: You may bring beer and wine. No hard alcohol allowed.
Wear dance shoes if you have them! No stiletto heels allowed.$20 general admission (recommended)
$15 member of Hillside Club or of BACDS
$25 supporter
$6 student or low-income

We accept cash and venmoThis is a traditional or old-time square dance (not a modern or club dance). All dancers are welcome.
The old-time jam is open to all musicians. The jam is free. If you join the square dance, please contribute.
We encourage you to bring your water bottles to save cups. It can get hot.

This dance is organized by the Bay Area Country Dance Society (BACDS).
https://www.bacds.org/series/square/east-bay/This dance is usually on the third Friday of the month. In September, the dance is on Friday, September 26th (the fourth Friday) to avoid conflict with the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention.
