What does it mean to be "your authentic self?"
Idealism v Realism - ABSOLUTE TRUTH - What does that mean ? does it exist ? Ontology, how equipped are we to fathom the nature of things? HARD PROBLEM OF CONSCIOUSNESS: WHERE DOES CONSCIOUSNESS ARISE?: DOES DNA TRANSLATE TO BEHAVIOUR?, IF SO HOW - definition of rationality - origins of "value" - precision of mathematics - concept of infinity.
What is the definition of Information -
- where is the information in an un opened book, does it exist when unobserved?

- what evidence is there for evolutionarily selected behaviour, given that we cannot observe the history of the emergence of neurological structures as we can observe evolutionarily selected anatomical changes?

The workshops include of a prior presentation of the topic by myself on YouTube. The meeting itself consists of a brief review of the topic followed by questions and discussion. The weekly topic is posted a week before the event, together with a suggested reading from my work The Pursuit of Value, available through Amazon Books or myself. Transcripts of the Youtube presentation are available by email.THIS WEEK: John Searle described the lack of progress in resolving the problem of ‘free will’ as a scandal in philosophy. On one hand, the principle of universal causation holds that every event has a sufficient cause, and on the other, we feel ourselves sometimes able to act freely, beyond the constraints of external forces. Also, if there is ‘free will’, it is a product of reflective consciousness. Animals don’t have it. Moreover, we are primarily concerned with actions being ‘our own’. Can a solution to the problem of ‘free will’ thereby be found in considerations of reflective consciousness and personal identity? Reading; The Pursuit of Value, Ch. 4, Scn. iv.

In the final part of this five part series, we’ll explore the ever-present concept of sin and its place in a diversity of different faiths. The emphasis placed on sin and the dire nature of its consequences can plant a pervasive, nagging or overwhelming fear that often follows people long after leaving a religion. In this presentation, counsellor and psychotherapist Caroline Winzenried will discuss how guilt about sin can transform into a deep-seated sense of shame and anxiety that leaves people feeling as though they are fundamentally "bad".
