Social Walk, Language Exchange & Make New Friends in Melbourne 🌏🚶
Details
Looking to meet new people, practise languages and explore Melbourne on foot? Join us for a relaxed evening social walk along the Yarra and through Docklands! 🌏🚶♀️
Whether you’re new to Melbourne, an international student, working holiday maker, expat, local, or simply looking to expand your social circle, everyone is welcome.
This isn’t a formal language class — it’s a casual social walk where you can practise English or other languages naturally while chatting, walking and getting to know people from different backgrounds.
📅 Thursday, 15 October 2026
⏰ 6:00 PM
📍 Meeting Point: In front of Hamer Hall
100 St Kilda Rd, Southbank VIC 3004
📍 How to find us
Hamer Hall is directly opposite Flinders Street Station.
From Flinders Street Station, cross Princes Bridge toward Southbank and you’ll reach Hamer Hall in around 2 minutes.
We’ll meet outside the front of Hamer Hall before starting the walk together.
- Please arrive a few minutes early so you have time to introduce yourself and meet the group before we start walking. Once the group starts moving, I may not be able to keep up with messages, so please make sure you arrive on time.
🚶 Our Walk
We’ll start at Hamer Hall, walk along the Yarra River through Southbank, continue toward Webb Bridge and Docklands, enjoy the waterfront paths, then make our way back toward Southern Cross Station via Marvel Stadium.
The full walk will be approximately 5 km, mostly flat and at a comfortable social walking pace.
The idea is simple: get some steps in, enjoy Melbourne in the evening, practise languages and make some new connections along the way.
🌏 Coming alone? Perfect!
Most people at our events come on their own, so don’t worry if you don’t know anyone.
If you’re introverted, shy, new to Meetup or attending your first social event, feel free to come straight over and say hi to me (my name is Liem). I’ll be happy to introduce you to others and help get the conversation started.
We’ll naturally mix and chat with different people as we walk, so there will be plenty of opportunities to meet someone new.
You don’t need to speak perfect English, and there’s no pressure to be super outgoing. Just come as you are and enjoy some friendly conversations. 😊
👟 What to bring
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring some water. Melbourne weather can change quickly, so it’s also worth checking the forecast before coming.
⚠️ A quick note
This is a casual community social walk. By attending, you acknowledge that you are responsible for your own safety, belongings and wellbeing during the event. Please follow pedestrian rules, be mindful around roads, cyclists and other path users, and participate at your own comfort level.
If you RSVP in advance, please check the event page again on the day, as the route, meeting arrangements or event details may be updated if weather conditions require it.
Come for the walk, stay for the conversations, and hopefully leave with a few new friends. 🌏🤝
See you Thursday evening!
