Talk 1:

speaker: Dr. Timothy Jones

title: "Practical and principled evaluation of search quality"

Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce some common ways that search systems can be evaluated for result quality in a research setting, and discuss how these approaches can easily apply to an industrial setting. Topics will include explicit judgements of individual document quality, A/B in-situ system evaluation, and effective use of implicit metrics such as click data.

Title: Fuzzy type-ahead search over geo-textual data - how is it different from Google Map?

Each talk is about 15 mins, followed by a 5-min Q&A.
